Empowerment

I'm really not a raging feminist.  I believe that women are strong, that they are equal(but different) to men, and that we are capable of great things professionally,  in the home, and just as individuals.  But I hesitate to jump on the "GIRL POWER" bandwagon too often because I don't want to foster any feelings of superiority over men in my heart.

But once in awhile I like to nurture my own "girl power" and remind myself that I am strong. "I am woman, hear me roar" type of thing. I do this driving around in my minivan, in my kitchen, in the shower, singing at the top of my lungs.  Totally shameless.  What do I sing? I sing Alicia Keys- Superwoman.

SING IT GIRL.

.

Here are the lyrics, bust it out on your bad days,  Empowerment guaranteed.

Everywhere I'm turning
Nothing seems complete
I stand up and I'm searching
For the better part of me
I hang my head from sorrow
state of humanity
I wear it on my shoulders
Gotta find the strength in me

Cause I am a Superwoman
Yes I am
Yes she is
Even when I'm a mess
I still put on a vest
With an S on my chest
Oh yes
I'm a Superwoman

For all the mothers fighting
For better days to come
And all my women, all my women sitting here trying
To come home before the sun
And all my sisters
Coming together
Say yes I will
Yes I can

When I'm breaking down
And I can't be found
And I start to get weak
Cause no one knows
Me underneath these clothes
But I can fly
We can fly, Oh

Cause I am a Superwoman
Yes I am
Yes she is
Even when I'm a mess
I still put on a vest
With an S on my chest
Oh yes
I'm a Superwoman

  1. There's a song by Shontelle called "Superwoman" that became my mantra during my divorce. It's pretty awesome. Alicia Keys is the bomb. And I think I am a raging feminist, except I still think men are great. (Most days, anyway...) I love you.

MY FAVORITE VERSE. All your sisters, all us women, we LOVE you. We think of you. We pray for you. We hold you in our hearts, in our minds, and you have our faith and our strength, forever.

  4. Alicia! Amazing voice. I'm a feminist. Maybe not raging. But a feminist. Women have a value and love inside them that is way more than we see. I adore all my feminist qualities. I love softness, gentleness, strength, sisterhood and friendship, hope and trust...i can't help it! I think we're amazing!

    1. I like your definition of a feminist. I like it a lot. I guess I always thought of feminists as cut-throat, abrasive, in your face and having a bit of a chip on their shoulder. I feel a little ashamed of not having more respect for my sisters. Thanks for making me rethink it.

Just another thing to add to my list of "Things I've Learned Fom the Amazing Women Online."

    2. lol! back at you Jane...I've learned so much from all our friends here! We are so lucky to have each other.

Those cut-throat, abrasive women are like angry dogs. Destroying our sacred place in this world. They don't realize their own worth. Nothing makes them happy and they wont feel peace until they embrace their inner femininity. At least that's my 2 cents.
